Serbia will join cities across Europe in marking European Mobility Week 2026<\/strong><\/a> from 16 to 22 September, under the theme \u201cMobility for Everyone\u201d. The campaign puts citizens\u2019 perspectives at the heart of smart urban mobility planning, promoting safe, accessible and sustainable transport for everyone, regardless of age, ability or circumstances. It also highlights how the design of our streets, public spaces and transport systems can directly shape the quality of life in our cities and communities.<\/p>\n

\u201cSafe, affordable, accessible and emission-free mobility is not a luxury \u2014 it is essential to people\u2019s quality of life and to sustainable economic development. Communities must take the lead in shaping transport solutions that respond to citizens\u2019 real needs, and the European Union is proud to support this effort \u2014 not only by championing this vision, but by investing in concrete projects that improve daily life. Better connections, safer mobility and modern transport infrastructure built to European standards help people travel safely, comfortably and independently, regardless of age or ability, while bringing communities, regions and economies closer together\u201d<\/em>, said Andreas von Beckerath, EU Ambassador to Serbia.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Launched by the European Commission in 2002, European Mobility Week<\/a><\/strong> has grown into one of the world\u2019s largest initiatives promoting sustainable urban mobility. Last year, more than 2,700 cities in 45 countries<\/strong> took part in the campaign. The campaign places additional emphasis on intergenerational fairness<\/strong>, bringing the generations together around a simple and universal forms of movement: cycling and walking.<\/p>\n

European Mobility Week gives us an important opportunity to put citizens at the centre of this discussion, to engage with them, listen to their experiences and needs, and introduce new ideas and perspectives on mobility. It is an opportunity to think not only about how we move today, but also about how we want to move in the future, and how better mobility can create tangible benefits for people, communities and society as a whole.<\/p>\n

Events will take place in Belgrade, Novi Sad, Ni\u0161, Novi Pazar, Aran\u0111elovac and Subotica<\/strong>, with each local programme tailored to the needs and specificities of the community. Across the country, the programme will combine educational and awareness-raising activities, traffic safety initiatives, cycling and walking activities, safe-route mapping, and actions promoting active and inclusive mobility<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

The starting point of this year\u2019s campaign in Serbia will be a series of joint bicycle rides with<\/strong> Olympic cyclist Ivan Stevi\u0107<\/strong> bringing together institutions representatives and partners.<\/strong> The rides will lead to primary schools and town squares, where interactive programmes will connect participants of different generations. Through cycling and walking, the initiative will highlight the central message of this year\u2019s campaign.<\/p>\n

In Belgrade<\/strong>, the programme will combine the joint ride with an educational session at a primary school focusing on traffic safety, safe routes, intergenerational fairness, and active and inclusive mobility<\/strong>, complemented by a Tour de Fun mini skills course<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

In Ni\u0161<\/strong>, the programme will bring together cycling, traffic safety and school-based activities, alongside a Sports for All<\/strong> event in \u010cair Park bringing together citizens, local sports clubs and sports enthusiasts. Novi Pazar<\/strong> will combine cycling and pedestrian activities, safe-route mapping, a mobility photography exhibition, a Tour de Fun skills and traffic safety course<\/strong>, and a recreational bicycle ride through the city.<\/p>\n

The wider campaign will also include activities in Ni\u0161<\/strong>, a trail route on Kalafat Mountain connected to the E7 European Long-Distance Path<\/strong> will be cleaned, marked and launched with a demonstration training race. In Subotica<\/strong>, European Mobility Week will be linked to the celebration of 25 years of German Development Cooperation in Serbi<\/strong><\/a>a<\/strong>, with bicycle tours showcasing the Resilient Cities in Serbia<\/em> project and selected Climate Spots. In Aran\u0111elovac<\/strong>, Car-Free Day will transform part of Knjaza Milo\u0161a Street into a public space for pedestrians, cyclists, children, older people and persons with disabilities, featuring a children’s traffic safety and cycling skills zone, a recreational bicycle ride, an interactive citizen zone and a \u201cCity Safari\u201d accessibility walk<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

A central message of this year\u2019s campaign is: sustainable mobility must be designed for everyone, regardless of physical ability. Mr Milan Petrovi\u0107, a Serbian Paralympic cyclist, will join the programme as an advocate for accessibility and inclusion.<\/p>\n

European Mobility Week 2026 is organised by the Delegation of the European Union to Serbia<\/strong>, in partnership with the EU for Green Agenda in Serbia<\/strong><\/a>, <\/strong>European Investment Bank<\/strong><\/a> (EIB) and <\/strong>Transport Community<\/strong><\/a>.<\/strong> The campaign also brings together cities and municipalities, schools, EU Member State embassies, EU-funded projects, Programmes, CSOs and other partners<\/strong> across the country.<\/p>\n
