Film Friday in March is dedicated to International Women’s Day<\/b> , which is celebrated every year on the 8th. March, this year under the slogan “Real. Justice. Now! For all women and girls.”<\/strong> (#ForAllWomenandGirls #InternationalWomensDay2026).<\/p>\n

In cooperation with the Embassy of Spain in Serbia, on March 13,<\/strong> the cycle opens with the Spanish film Soy Nevenka<\/i> ( I am Nevenka<\/i> ), a powerful true story about the first woman in Spain who took a powerful politician to court for sexual harassment.<\/p>\n

The Italian-French drama Primadonna<\/i> ( The Girl from Tomorrow<\/i> ) is in the repertoire on March 20<\/strong> and brings a poignant story about a young woman who defies an imposed marriage in the 1960s and starts a personal and legal fight for dignity.<\/p>\n

The series closes on March 27<\/strong> with the Austrian comedy Mermaids Don’t Cry<\/i> , a humorous but harsh story about a modern woman who balances family obligations, economic challenges and personal dreams. All films are shown in their original languages \u200b\u200bwith Serbian subtitles, with free admission for the audience.<\/p>\n

Synopsis: In the year 2000, twenty-four-year-old Nevenka Fernandes, councilor for finance in the city of Ponferada, becomes the victim of relentless persecution, both personally and professionally, by the mayor, a man who is used to enforcing his own will both in politics and in private life. Nevenka decides to report him, although she knows that she will pay a high price for it – her environment does not support her, the community of Ponferrada turns its back on her, and the media exposes her to a public trial. Her case is starting the #Metoo movement in Spain long before the term even came into existence. A story based on true events, which turns its heroine into a pioneer, because she is the first to bring a powerful and influential politician to court for sexual and work harassment.<\/p>\n

But she defies all social expectations and norms, and embarks on a personal and legal battle for self-determination.<\/p>\n

Marta Savina is an Italian director known for the films Viola, Franca (2017) and Mississippi Requiem (2018). The Girl from Tomorrow<\/i> received the Audience Award for Best Film at Edera Film Festival 2023.<\/p>\n

Synopsis: Anika, a supermarket clerk, dreams of the perfect mermaid fin. It would bring glamor to her chaotic world when her father comes back to move in with her again, her friend leaves her children with her to look after, while her would-be lover does not leave because he becomes homeless. But none of that matters: Anika needs fins that cost 2,458 euros. The film received the Austrian Film Award 2024. for Best Supporting Actor (Karl Fischer).<\/p>\n
