What is it like to live with dementia? What happens when a high-speed train crosses a field? And who pays, and who answers for the millions spent on dogs? Participants of the Nova Ekonomija Press Academy<\/a>, young journalists from local media across Serbia, went looking for answers.<\/p>\n

What is the Press Academy?<\/strong><\/p>\n

It is a four-month programme of Nova Ekonomija<\/a> dedicated to investigative and economic journalism. Participants heard from leading investigative journalists and lecturers in economics, gender-sensitive reporting and multimedia, and then developed their own stories with mentors. Their work was assessed as a serious contribution to informing the public and shedding light on socially important topics. The Academy is organised together with the Media Reform Centre Ni\u0161 and the Women\u2019s Forum Prijepolje, with the support of the European Union.<\/p>\n

Who are the awarded participants?<\/strong><\/p>\n

The fourth<\/a> generation was completed by seven participants from Vrnja\u010dka Banja, Zaje\u010dar, Vrbas, Ni\u0161, Belgrade, Kragujevac and Be\u010dej. The first three prizes went to Mila Dragni\u0107 for \u201cOver the Field to the High-Speed Train\u201d, Milica Ne\u0161i\u0107 for \u201cOn the Roads of the Mines: From Zaje\u010dar to Krivelj \u2013 the Fate of Eastern Serbia\u201d and Milica Nikoli\u0107 for \u201cPre-Election Sedative: Lulling the Political Crisis with Cheaper Medicines\u201d.<\/p>\n

Among participants of the fifth<\/a> generation, the best were Danijela Pavlovi\u0107 with the story \u201cLiving with Dementia: The Key in the Lock, Anxiety in the Heart and a Struggle Serbia Keeps Silent About\u201d, Milica Mijailovi\u0107 with \u201cMillions for Dogs \u2013 Who Pays and Who Is Accountable\u201d and Ana Giner with \u201cFamily from the Soul: From Trauma to Trust in Adoptive Families\u201d.<\/p>\n

Where were the awards presented?<\/strong><\/p>\n

The final events were held in Belgrade. Participants visited the newsrooms of Nova Ekonomija, the Fonet news agency, the weekly Vreme and BIRN, and received their certificates and awards for the best works at Europe House<\/a>. There they were addressed by Sr\u0111an Staletovi\u0107, Director of Europe House, and, for the fifth generation, Filip Luki\u0107, Communications Associate at Europe House, who presented the work of the institution in Serbia.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
