Europe is home to a rich diversity of languages, and September includes a day dedicated to celebrating them, their diversity and their importance in understanding others.
The European Day of Languages is an ideal opportunity to discover the languages spoken across Europe. Throughout September, Europe House, in cooperation with the Institute of Foreign Languages and Dečiji grad, hosted a series of children’s workshops entitled “Language Through Play”. The workshops were designed for children and primary school pupils, introducing them to the basics of languages spoken across Europe.
The final workshop in the series was held on the European Day of Languages itself, bringing together around 100 children eager to learn and embark on a linguistic journey across Europe with instructors from the Institute of Foreign Languages.
During the workshops, participants had the opportunity to learn the basics of Italian, Greek and French, as well as create their own little dictionaries to take home and continue practising the words they had learned. Language learning was complemented by music, clips from cartoons, and everyday examples such as food, the names of academic disciplines and school subjects, as well as popular products originating from these countries.
The final workshop was also attended by classes from Jovan Miodragović Primary School in Vračar, Majka Jugovića Primary School in Zemun, and Sveti Sava Primary School in Mladenovac.
