Serbia will join cities across Europe in marking European Mobility Week 2026 from 16 to 22 September, under the theme “Mobility for Everyone”. The campaign puts citizens’ perspectives at the heart of smart urban mobility planning, promoting safe, accessible and sustainable transport for everyone, regardless of age, ability or circumstances. It also highlights how the design of our streets, public spaces and transport systems can directly shape the quality of life in our cities and communities.
Launched by the European Commission in 2002, European Mobility Week has grown into one of the world’s largest initiatives promoting sustainable urban mobility. Last year, more than 2,700 cities in 45 countries took part in the campaign. The campaign places additional emphasis on intergenerational fairness, bringing the generations together around a simple and universal forms of movement: cycling and walking.
European Mobility Week gives us an important opportunity to put citizens at the centre of this discussion, to engage with them, listen to their experiences and needs, and introduce new ideas and perspectives on mobility. It is an opportunity to think not only about how we move today, but also about how we want to move in the future, and how better mobility can create tangible benefits for people, communities and society as a whole.
Events will take place in Belgrade, Novi Sad, Niš, Novi Pazar, Aranđelovac and Subotica, with each local programme tailored to the needs and specificities of the community. Across the country, the programme will combine educational and awareness-raising activities, traffic safety initiatives, cycling and walking activities, safe-route mapping, and actions promoting active and inclusive mobility.
The starting point of this year’s campaign in Serbia will be a series of joint bicycle rides with Olympic cyclist Ivan Stević bringing together institutions representatives and partners. The rides will lead to primary schools and town squares, where interactive programmes will connect participants of different generations. Through cycling and walking, the initiative will highlight the central message of this year’s campaign.
In Belgrade, the programme will combine the joint ride with an educational session at a primary school focusing on traffic safety, safe routes, intergenerational fairness, and active and inclusive mobility, complemented by a Tour de Fun mini skills course.
In Niš, the programme will bring together cycling, traffic safety and school-based activities, alongside a Sports for All event in Čair Park bringing together citizens, local sports clubs and sports enthusiasts. Novi Pazar will combine cycling and pedestrian activities, safe-route mapping, a mobility photography exhibition, a Tour de Fun skills and traffic safety course, and a recreational bicycle ride through the city.
In Niš, a trail route on Kalafat Mountain connected to the E7 European Long-Distance Path will be cleaned, marked and launched with a demonstration training race. In Subotica, European Mobility Week will be linked to the celebration of 25 years of German Development Cooperation in Serbia, with bicycle tours showcasing the Resilient Cities in Serbia project and selected Climate Spots. In Aranđelovac, Car-Free Day will transform part of Knjaza Miloša Street into a public space for pedestrians, cyclists, children, older people and persons with disabilities, featuring a children’s traffic safety and cycling skills zone, a recreational bicycle ride, an interactive citizen zone and a “City Safari” accessibility walk.
A central message of this year’s campaign is: sustainable mobility must be designed for everyone, regardless of physical ability. Mr Milan Petrović, a Serbian Paralympic cyclist, will join the programme as an advocate for accessibility and inclusion.
European Mobility Week 2026 is organised by the Delegation of the European Union to Serbia in partnership with the EU for Green Agenda in Serbia, European Investment Bank (EIB) and Transport Community. The campaign also brings together cities and municipalities, schools, EU Member State embassies, EU-funded projects, Programmes, CSOs and other partners across the country.

Ahead of the main European Mobility Week event, Europe House Novi Sad, in cooperation with the Novi Sad Cycling Initiative (NSBI), will organise an activity for pupils of Primary School “Đorđe Natošević”. NSBI will mark a permanent cycling training ground within the school grounds, providing a lasting resource for practical cycling and road-safety education beyond European Mobility Week. The activity will also include an interactive, age-appropriate workshop by NSBI on safe cycling, responsible behaviour in traffic and basic road-safety principles.

A community sports event featuring 3x3 basketball and football tournaments, family-friendly “Games Without Borders”, presentations by local sports and dance clubs, and demonstrations of wheelchair basketball and inclusive bocce. The programme will also showcase Erasmus+ Sport projects implemented by KOM 018 and its partners, promoting mental health, gender equality, inclusion and access to sport for all.
The programme will start at the City Square with participant registration, a cycling skills zone and a pedestrian training zone, including traffic safety activities for primary school pupils, as well as a sustainable mobility route-mapping activity by the EU for Circular Economy project. The programme will also feature the “Mobility through the Lens” photography exhibition. It will continue with a prize draw and the start of a recreational bicycle ride through the city, coordinated with the Traffic Safety Council of Novi Pazar.
Outdoor event marking 25 years of German Development Cooperation in Serbia, bringing together projects, activities and partners to showcase the results and impact of cooperation in Subotica and the region. As part of European Mobility Week, the programme will include bicycle tour(s) showcasing the Resilient Cities in Serbia project and selected Climate Spots in Subotica, alongside various programme activities and a concert.
Cleaning and marking of two trail routes of approximately 10 and 20 km on Kalafat Mountain, suitable for runners and hikers of different ages and fitness levels. A section of the Niš Transversal, connected to the E7 European Long-Distance Path, will be included. The activity will be launched with a demonstration training race organised by Running Club Niš and Europe House Niš.
As a local closing activity of European Mobility Week, Europe House Novi Sad plans a participatory discussion bringing together younger and older citizens and mobility stakeholders to explore everyday mobility in Novi Sad. The discussion will address accessibility, safety, independence and mobility barriers, with an interactive mapping element identifying safe, accessible and challenging locations. It will connect everyday experiences with the “Mobility for Everyone” theme and encourage intergenerational exchange.
The programme will include Car free day, a children's road-safety cycling and scooter course, a community bicycle ride, interactive activities on sustainable and safe mobility, and a participatory mapping activity through which citizens will identify locations where improvements are needed for pedestrians, cyclists and persons with reduced mobility. The event will promote walking, cycling, accessibility, road safety and more inclusive use of public space, while giving citizens an opportunity to contribute concrete proposals for improving mobility in Aranđelovac.
