Carnival, writer and Italian crafts on the screen

What happens when the magic of the carnival, the spirit of one of the greatest Italian writers and the multi-generational craft tradition meet on the movie screen?

The answer comes from the documentary Cartapesta: il Carn vale di Fano – il Film , shown at the Svilara Cultural Station in Novi Sad, which took the audience to the heart of one of the oldest and most colorful carnivals in Europe, the carnival in the Italian city of Fano – through a story of art, community and heritage that lasts for centuries.

“Carnival is a triumph of art, imagination and dreams. It consists of moving carnival floats, but also of people who make up a community. With their strong appeal, satirical floats unite everyone around them, giving the event the privilege of a sense of belonging, an honor of collective identity,” said Andrea Lodovicet , director of the documentary film Cartapesta: il Carnevale di Fano – il Film.

The film shown is inspired by the works of Italo Calvino and his famous book Invisible Cities and pays tribute to the Italian city of Fano. It shows the preservation of the tradition of exceptional creative and artisanal knowledge of making papier-mâché figurines, which has been nominated for the UNESCO list of intangible cultural heritage.

This event was realized as part of the cooperation between the European House Novi Sad and the Italian Institute of Culture in Belgrade, with the aim of bringing contemporary Italian film and cultural heritage closer to the domestic audience.
