David Dzaiz in Novi Sad – How can Europe remain a relevant global actor?

In an increasingly unstable world, Europe must learn how to protect itself without losing its values. The French philosopher and essayist David Dzaiz spoke about this at the French Institute in Novi Sad, emphasizing that the European project is faced with the necessity of redefinition in the new geopolitical circumstances.

French philosopher and essayist David Jaise spoke about the contemporary challenges facing Europe , including changes in the global political and economic order, European sovereignty, as well as the need to redefine the European project in the light of new geopolitical circumstances.

One of the important topics of the conversation was the issue of freedom and its price in modern societies. Jaiz pointed out that the value of freedom is often seen most clearly in times of crisis.

“Freedom is more expensive than happiness. Freedom has its price, and that price is even higher in times of war. We must defend our freedom because without it there can be no true happiness. You can have the illusion of well-being, but at some point you will realize that you are not truly happy,” he said.

“Europe cannot remain only a functional union” , emphasized Jaiz and pointed out that it is necessary to work on creating a cultural union and invest in raising the technological level in order for Europe to remain a relevant global actor.

“We all have difficulties, that’s why we have to be in solidarity and work to create a new model for Europe. Either we will build a stronger Europe together, the size of the entire continent, or we will remain divided and defeated,” he said on the subject of the need for joint action by European societies.

David Jaiz is a French intellectual, philosopher and essayist, author of the books Slow démocratie , Le Nouveau modèle français and La Révolution obligée . In his works, he deals with the impact of globalization, the transformation of democracy and the strategic role of Europe in the modern world.

The meeting with the French essayist David Dzaiz was organized by the European House Novi Sad, the French Institute in Novi Sad and the Young European Ambassadors. The conversation was moderated by lawyer Srđan Hromiš, an alumni of the Young European Ambassadors.
