Three Generations on the Same Way to School

European Mobility Week in Niš began with a bicycle ride that led from Nemanjića Boulevard to “Sveti Sava” Primary School. On the same route and on the same mode of transport were representatives of Europe House Niš, Olympic cyclist Ivan Stević, and a number of local cyclists from different generations.

“We want to translate this year’s theme, ‘Mobility for All’, into concrete activities and opportunities for residents of Niš, from safe cycling and child mobility, through sport for all, to walking and running in nature. It matters to us that this campaign leaves behind knowledge and resources that residents can keep using afterwards,” said Danijela Vučić, manager of Europe House Niš.

Upon arriving at the school, the educational programme “Mobility for All” followed, dedicated to road safety, safe routes and active mobility. The programme continued with a mini course for developing cycling skills, run by the organization Tour de Fun, and closed with a motivational segment on accessibility and the inclusion of people with disabilities, featuring Paralympic athlete Milan Petrović.

“Children should be able to get to school on foot, by bike or by scooter, because active mobility contributes to their health, development and socializing. European Mobility Week reminds us that we are building a traffic culture in which sustainable ways of getting around are a natural alternative, and an investment in better conditions for generations to come,” said Ivan Stević, Olympic cyclist.

Finally, the school was presented with a bicycle and a set of safety equipment, which will remain in use for future road safety classes.
